DAVID ORECK               AMERICAN  ICON

David Oreck collects and flys vintage airplanes and rides a Harley! This is just in his free time. This cleaning guru created the Oreck Vacuum! Even though he is 84 years old there is no slowing down for him. He is passionate about making vacuums and clean air machines.

DAVID ORECK founded the Oreck Corporation in the United States in 1963.

A native of Minnesota, he served in World War II aboard B29’s in the 20th Air Force in the Pacific.  Following the war in 1946, he joined the RCA wholesale distributor in New York City as a salesman, ultimately becoming General Sales Manager.  Mr. Oreck pioneered the introduction of both black and white and color television in New York.  He played an important role in the introduction of automatic washers and microwave ovens.

He was introduced to the mail order business when he formed a company that taught electronics repair by correspondence entirely in Spanish!  He created one of the first master antenna companies in New York City, which was the start of the cable TV industry.  He founded a charter airline service in New York and did much of the flying himself.  In 1963 he established Oreck Corporation, and in 1965 Mr. Oreck became the exclusive RCA wholesale distributor in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Oreck Corporation began as a company manufacturing upright vacuum cleaners for the hotel industry in the U.S.  Its concept was to design a lightweight year powerful and durable vacuum that hotel maids would prefer to the very heavy models available to them.   The idea proved so successful that now over 50,000 hotels throughout the world use Oreck vacuums.  After a short time, hotel personnel asked to buy the machines for their own use which gave the Oreck Corporation the idea to sell its unique products to the general public.

Oreck now sells throughout North America and South America, as well as Europe and the Orient.  It has the reputation of being the manufacturer of the very finest cleaning equipment available anywhere.  It concentrates on lightweight cleaning machines of every style, each model having exceptional durability and ease of handling.  An example of its success is that the only vacuum cleaners sold by the American Express Company are Orecks.  American Express has sold over $100 million worth of Oreck vacuums to its card members.  Oreck also manufactures air purifiers.

A Harley Davidson enthusiast, and a commercial pilot he currently owns and flies seven different planes including a vintage Waco Open Cockpit airplane and a Navy Warbird T-34.
David Oreck is the recipient of countless national advertising and marketing awards.
