Craig And Pam Akers
Craig and Pamela Akers are the parents of Shawn Hornbeck and the founders of The Shawn Hornbeck Foundation. The Foundation was created as Shawn’s family response when Shawn, then 11, was abducted October 6. 2002 while riding his bicycle near his Richwoods MO home.
Shawn’s story became known as “the Missouri Miracle” when he was found and returned home on January 12, 2007 after 1,558 days in captivity, along with another Missouri boy who was abducted five days earlier.
Shawn, now 16, is home with his family and recovering remarkably well. Although he received no education during his captivity, the assistance of tutors and private school have helped Shawn advance nearly four grade levels in less than 10 months.
Pam and Craig have devoted their life’s work to helping keep other children safe through abduction prevention education, child identification programs and aiding in the search for and rescue of other missing children.
Hear the incredible story of survival and love from this family that endured the 1600-day captivity of their son and the beautiful restoration of a family once believed to be broken forever.
The Shawn Hornbeck Foundation (SHF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of the abduction of children and the search for and rescue of lost, missing or abducted children.
