A former secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, part of President Reagan’s Cabinet, and once a Director of Agriculture for the State of Illinois, John Block is the current president of Food Distributors International. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served for three years as an airborne infantry officer before returning to his hometown in Illinois to form a farming partnership with his father. Secretary Block has visited more than thirty foreign countries. He met with heads of state and agriculture ministers from all over the globe, negotiating sensitive agreements critical to U.S. farm interests. As Agriculture Secretary, John played a key role in developing the 1985 Farm Bill. John currently has a syndicated weekly radio commentary broadcast by more than 400 stations in thirty states.
