Von Trapp Children

The World's Most Famous Singing Family

The Sound of Music captured the hearts of millions when the film debuted in 1965.  Now, nearly forty years later, the von Trapp’s family legacy is born anew.  Meet the von Trapp Children:  Sofia (18), Melanie (16), Amanda (15), and Justin (11).  They are the great-grandchildren of Captain von Trapp, father of the famous singing family whose story captivated the world in the musical The Sound of Music.  The children have continued the tradition of the family’s exceptional musical gift and love of singing, sharing songs and heart-warming family stories of life before and after coming to America.

The von Trapp Children perform a variety of folk and classical songs from various European and American traditions, as well as timeless pieces from The Sound of Music.  The children’s effervescent voices mesh the way only a family’s can, and musicians and audiences of all ages recognize the children’s beautiful harmonic blend and pristine tone.  As a result, they are increasingly in demand as symphony and pops orchestra guest artists.  The children have performed with such major orchestras as Boston Pops, Atlanta, Detroit, Phoenix, Milwaukee Symphonies and the Minnesota Orchestra.  They are currently contracted to perform with the Baltimore, Indianapolis, Dallas and Omaha Symphonies, as well as the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.

Although the kids started out playing small venues, sell out crowds have carried them into some of the world’s most prestigious theaters, including a date at the Sydney Opera House on a world tour that took them to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea. The children have performed across the country for a variety of media, including appearances on Today (NBC), Fox and Friends (Fox News), Good Morning America (ABC), CBS Sunday Morning, The Grand Ole Opry (GAC), The 700 Club (CBN), Inside Edition, QVC Network and numerous top 20 market television morning and news shows.  Print coverage has included features in The New York Times, Parade, LIFE, Good Housekeeping, Time for Kids, Associated Press, Reuters, Times News Service, Cox News Service and dozens of local newspapers.

The von Trapp Children have recorded three albums: The von Trapp Children, Vol. 1, released nationally in January, 2003, The von Trapp Children, Vol. 2,  released in September, 2004, and Christmas with The von Trapp Children, set for re- release in fall, 2006.  An a cappella album is currently in the works.

Summer, 2003 brought an historic event for the children, as they portrayed the beloved characters based on their grandfather and three of their great aunts in the North Carolina Theater production of The Sound of Music in Raleigh, NC.  That production broke several box office records for the company, grossing $850,000 in 13 performances.  The show then moved to the Aladdin Resort in Las Vegas for a week.  Filmed footage of the children’s 2005 performance at the Hollywood Bowl has been included in 20th Century Fox’s 40th anniversary DVD release of the movie as well.

The children will interrupt their busy touring schedule to shoot a Christmas movie in August.  The film is set for a Christmas, 2007 national release.
