Bob Cousy

Bob Cousy

MA, US
Mr. Basketball

Superstars.  Big egos, a fast ride to the top, and then what?  It's nice to know that a man like Bob Cousy has zoomed to the heights ... and is still climbing.

Bob's rare combination of talent, guts, and genuine modesty earned him the title, "Mr.  Basketball".  But the game never was bigger than life to Bob Cousy.  Incredible as it may seem, basketball is only a part of his life.  Beyond the playoffs, championships, awards and hero-worship, there is a very sensitive, articulate and, often, funny man.  Bob Cousy: player, coach, businessman, humanitarian, family man, friend.  Among the stars that travel the circuit, Bob Cousy has to be one of the brightest.

From Manhattan's West 83rd Street to 13 NBA All-Star Games, the little man (6’1") in the domain of giants, brought stature to the game not measured in inches.  From the beginning there could be no doubt that this man was destined to play a major role in the growth of the game he loved best.  As a player Bob Cousy ranked as superstar for 17 years - 4 at Holy Cross as an All-American and 13 as captain of the world champion Boston Celtics. Since retiring from basketball in 1963 he has been a successful coach at both the college (Boston College) and professional (Cincinnati Royals) level.  In 1974 he was named coach of a team of U.S. All-Stars that competed in a 6 game series against the Russian national team.

Bob was elected to the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971 and is currently 1st V.P. of the Hall as well as being a Trustee and Member of the Executive Committee.

Currently he is the TV analyst for the Celtics.
