
Pat Buchanan
Patrick J. Buchanan has been a senior advisor to three American Presidents. From 1966 through 1974, he was a confidant and assistant to Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford; from 1985 to 1987 he was White House Director of Communications for Ronald Reagan. He served Mr. Nixon during all 18 months of the Watergate crisis, and Mr. Reagan during the first four months of Iran-Contra.
In December, 1991, Mr. Buchanan challenged President George Bush for the 1992 Republican presidential nomination. He again ran for the Republican nomination in 1996.
A journalist by vocation, Mr. Buchanan has returned to writing a syndicated column twice a week. He also co-hosted the nightly television program,, "Crossfire," on CNN, which he began in 1982. And in July of 1993, Mr. Buchanan began hosting his daily three hour Mutual Radio talk show, "Pat Buchanan & Company."
Mr. Buchanan's professional career began in 1962 when, at age 23, he was chosen as the youngest editorial writer on a major paper in the United States the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. His political career began three years later, when he signed on as the first full time staffer in what would later be "The Resurrection of Richard Nixon." During his eight White House years, Mr. Buchanan traveled with President Nixon as one of the 15 member official delegation to open up the People's Republic of China, and he was present at Mr. Nixon's final Moscow-Yalta summit in the summer of 1974. He was with President Reagan at both his first and second summits with Mikhail Gorbachev, at Geneva and Reykjavik.
His book, Right From The Beginning, was a Washington best seller about growing up Catholic and conservative in the nation's capital, in the 1940's and 50's. An honors graduate in English and Philosophy from Georgetown University, Mr. Buchanan received his master's degree from the Columbia School of Journalism in New York in 1962. His articles have appeared in a spectrum of publications, from Human Events and National Review on the right, to Nation and Rolling Stone on the left.
In addition, Mr. Buchanan has formed a new foundation, The American Cause, which addresses both political and cultural issues.
His most recently published book is titled The Death of the West: How Dying Populations and Immigrant Invasions Imperil Our Country and Civilization.
