Michael J. Nolte
On May 22, 2003, Michael Nolte was pulled over by a State Trooper for driving too long in the passing lane. It was an uncommon reason to be pulled over, and what happened next would forever change his life. A truck driver, not paying attention to what he was doing, veered his truck over and struck the trooper’s Crown Victoria, which immediately exploded into an inferno. The trooper was burned to death while Nolte was pulled out of the burning car by two strangers only seconds before sharing the same fate.
Mike suffered 3rd degree burns over 40% of his body and spent 10 weeks in a Burn Unit ICU, where he endured countless surgeries and skin grafts to repair the extensive damage to his body.
With the unending support of his wife of 25 years, their three daughters and scores of friends, he was returned to work after 15 months of grueling rehabilitation. With determination, grace and a profound commitment to getting his life back, Mike will not let that day destroy his life. As a result of the accident and subsequent activity by Senator Jim Talent, President Bush signed into law the “Pass with Care” amendment, requiring all vehicles to provide an empty lane to emergency vehicles during traffic stops and Nolte will be a part of that nation-wide awareness campaign.
His story, and how he overcame incredible adversity, has been the subject of many newspaper features and newscasts, including a national feature on CBS where they filmed the emotional reunion of Mike with his two rescuers.
A successful businessman, Mike owns an upscale bridal salon and is also a wedding coordinator of over 1,000 weddings in his career.
