Simon Whitfield
"Be relentless, be obsessed. Get obsessed, stay obsessed. The Gold is in the details." - Simon Whitfield
If you want a come-from-behind inspirational speaker, get Simon Whitfield wearing your team colours.
He is one of Canada’s greatest Olympians and became the first Olympian ever to win Gold in the Triathlon.
He’s the courageous “crash and carry on” guy you’d want in a foxhole next to you.
In 2000 in Sydney and 2008 in Beijing, Whitfield came from the back of the pack to win Olympic medals in the Triathlon, consisting of a 1.5-kilometre swim, a 44-kilometre bike race and a 10-kilometre run.
In Sydney, Whitfield overcame a crash in the bicycle portion of the event, then in a foot race came from behind with a big finishing kick to win a gold medal in record time and bring cheers of his fellow Canadians.
Eight years later, Whitfield came from fourth place to capture a silver medal.
In the 2002 Commonwealth Games in England, Whitfield won the gold medal.
Little wonder that the Kingston-born Whitfield was chosen as Canada's flag bearer for the 2012 London Summer Olympics. Only an injury from a bicycle crash prevented the four-time Olympian from challenging for a medal in London.
“My goal was always to be the best in the world at something,” he says.
Whitfield’s professional speaking is all about relentless pursuit of excellence, resiliency and loyalty, especially to team and to family.
Whitfield takes his role as an athlete and ambassador seriously – he supports many charities and enjoys visiting schools to talk to children about finding their own passions and setting goals.
Simon lives in Victoria with his family.
