Brian Burke

ON, CANADA
President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Brian Burke is the President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Stanley Cup Winning Anaheim Ducks from 2005 to 2008. He is a Harvard Law alumni, an impassioned community leader, and is credited with the successes of the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Franchise.

Brian Burke has succeeded at every stop in his NHL career; as the Assistant GM of the Vancouver Canucks, the General Manager of the Hartford Whalers, in the league's front office as the NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, and in his role as President & General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks.  In 2007, Brian reached the ultimate goal of leading his team the Anaheim Ducks on to winning the Stanley Cup.

It was Burke's success and knowledge of the "new" NHL that prompted the owners of the Vancouver Canucks to hire him in an attempt to turn around a struggling team that was losing in all areas of the game: in the standings, at the gate and on the books.

Three years after rejoining the Canucks Brian Burke was named by The Sporting News as the NHL's Executive of the Year recognizing the commitment he has shown by: strengthening his organization's financial position; improving the Canucks on-ice performance; attracting fans back to the rink, and in his constant fight to find long-term financial solutions for Canadian based NHL teams.

In 2004, Burke joined the TSN's NHL broadcast crew and appeared exclusively on TSN's SportsCentre, as well as acting as an analyst for NHL Classic games on Wednesday Night Hockey.
