Colin Angus

BC, CANADA
Leading adventurer, bestselling author & Canadian filmmaker

“Do whatever it is that tickles your fancy and don't let other people’s negativity stop you.” - Colin Angus

Colin Angus travels the old-fashioned way – he walks, he skies, he paddles boats, he runs from crocodiles.

But all the way around the world? Yes, in 2006 he became the first person to navigate the globe by human power alone -- some 43,000 kilometres by walking, skiing, biking, paddling and rowing to cross three continents and two oceans.

Best-selling author and National Geographic’s “Adventurer of the Year,” Angus is a riveting professional speaker, preaching about human potential.

His documentary films have been aired around the world on National Geographic television.

How does he accomplish these gruelling feats? “Ninety percent of it is in the head,” he says. “It’s not about being born with special talents, it’s about having the right strategy and frame of mind to reach your goals.”

As a teenager, he bought a sailboat with his paper route earnings, then went on a five year sailing odyssey in the Pacific Ocean. He says, “when I finally dropped anchor, listened to the call of the tropical birds and smelled the sweet smell of earth and coconuts carried over the water by the gentle trade winds, it felt as though I had reached paradise.”

With two friends in 1999, he conquered the Amazon River and wrote a book about it: Amazon Extreme: Three Ordinary Guys, One Rubber Raft and the World’s Most Dangerous River.

He also authored a book on his world trip, Beyond the Horizon: The Great Race to Finish the First Human-Powered Circumnavigation of the Planet.

Colin and his wife Julie live in Vancouver, B.C.
