Former Seattle Seahawks receiver Steve Largent converted his Tulsa roots and Seattle fame into serious political field position, winning Oklahoma's 1st District seat in 1994 and being inducted into the National Football Hall of Fame in early 1995. Steve Largent served over seven years as a Member of the United States Congress, representing the First Congressional District. In 1990, Steve was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans by the Jaycees. In recognition of a lifetime of achievement, Steve was awarded the Golden Plate Award by the American Academy of Achievement in 1989. He was recognized as the NFL Man of the Year in 1988 for his commitment to community service. Steve was also named as the first recipient of the Bart Starr Award by the Athletes in Action for serving as an exemplary role model both on and off the field. A member of the National Football League Hall of Fame, Steve Largent was a record setting pass receiver with the Seattle Seahawks for 14 years. He set six different career records and participated in seven Pro Bowls. In 1995, Steve Largent was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
