Jim Voss has flown in space four times and lived on the International Space Station.
Jim Voss has flown on four Space Shuttle missions and lived for six months on the International Space Station as a member of the Expedition 2 crew. Voss has logged 201 days in space, including four space walks during his NASA career. He has spoken to hundreds of audiences around the world on his experiences while living and working in space. Voss has a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University and an MS in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado. He served with the 2nd Battalion 48th Infantry in Germany and then taught at West Point. After attending the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, Voss was assigned to the U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Flight Activity as a Flight Test Engineer/Research and Development Coordinator. He was involved in several major flight test projects before being detailed to NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. He was selected as an astronaut in 1987. Voss was a mission specialist on STS-44 and STS-53, payload commander on STS-69, and a mission specialist on STS-101. During 2001 he lived and worked aboard the International Space Station as a member of the Expedition 2 crew. After leaving NASA, Voss was Associate Dean of Engineering at Auburn University. He is currently the VP of Space Exploration Systems for Transformational Space Corporation. An avid aviation enthusiast, Voss now relaxes by flying the airplane he built in his spare time.
