What does work/life balance look like without the “work”? Providing retirees (and wannabe retirees) with tools for finding a sense of purpose, curating your life, and aging gracefully.

Following retirement as a real estate analyst and musician, there were some hard lessons about overcoming feelings of uselessness and loss of identity. How do you find meaning in your life, if all you’re doing is golfing, playing with your cat, and taking naps? Learn about why having fun is so important. Fight back against that pesky work ethic: you don’t need that kind of an attitude in retirement. Don’t listen to the voice in your head – you know the one, it’s that voice that tells you you’re lazy if you’re not working. Be a quitter!

Learn techniques such as scheduling a golf game during a time when you know your former boss will be in a sales meeting, in order to enjoy golf that much more.

Make a collection of all the motivational sayings you’ve heard throughout your working life about perseverance, success, leadership, and excellence. Write them down on pieces of paper. Find all the ones that rhyme, and feed them into your shredder. Then shred all the rest of them.

Most of all, what can we look forward to if we’re no longer striving for anything? Answer: we can strive. We shouldstrive. We do strive. We strive for joy.
