Katie McCall
Do you have a team or group that is struggling with communication? Relationships? Getting "stuck?" Having to rebuild after life threw them a curveball? With two decades of professional storytelling as a television news reporter and anchor, I can help!
CONNECTION
Katie McCall is a large-market television news anchor and reporter, who uses her experience covering national news events to inspire and help people change their story...the one they tell themselves and others. From hurricanes to trials, to the terror attacks, she has been at the center of reality-altering events, often with just a camera and a microphone. Her motto: life is short. Be kind, be generous, and never give up.
CREDIBILITY
Her work in media is featured on Hulu, HBO, Netflix, ABC, and Amazon Prime Video, among others. McCall is known in the news industry for her "no-excuses, no nonsense" brand of storytelling. Her commitment to "just the facts" reporting has directly led to changes to 3 laws in two states, and put a serial infant killer scheduled for mandatory prison release back behind bars for good, more than 40 years after the murder cases had gone cold, and multiple district attorneys had declined the families' pleas to investigate. When they approached her, she said "yes." Her message for your audience: there is no such thing as "impossible."
ADVERSITY
After relocating to New York for a main anchor role at a regional cable network, McCall found herself without a job, after just 10 months. The network that had recruited her away from Chicago, and signed her to a 3 year deal, was purchased by a company that wiped out more than 50 staff members in just one day. She showed up to anchor five newscasts that day, only to find her key card had been deactivated. With an apartment in Manhattan, and a car space so expensive it rivaled her previous rent, she reached out to a talent agency and was signed as an actor and model. Thinking she might do some voice and print ads, and already in her late 40's, what happened next is nothing short of miraculous, particularly in the cutthroat world of television acting. Casting directors started requesting her to read for their network shows. She is now a SAG-AFTRA talent, whose credits include roles on CBS's "FBI," and Ryan Murphy's #1 hit series "Love Story: JFK Junior and Carolyn Bissette."
WARMTH
"A person's a person, no matter how small." A book about an Elephant named Horton became McCall's inspiration to overcome early childhood challenges that caused severe depression and low self-esteem. Growing up, she was bullied daily, and had little relief from critics who found making fun of her to be their primary source of entertainment. From that experience, she became intolerant of exclusion, and a crusader against bullying of any kind. Now attending NYU for her Master's in Social Work, McCall is taking the worst and the best of her experiences and putting them to work as a therapist. She connects with people through empathy, and teaches them to embrace the words of the late Reverend Jesse Jackson, with whom McCall worked on a number of stories: "I am somebody."
