Steven Wei, EdD, MPH, MS, PA-C, DFAAPA is a physician associate, educator, and leadership coach whose career spans more than 25 years at MD Anderson Cancer Center. A graduate of the Baylor College of Medicine PA Program, he went on to earn an MPH from the UT School of Public Health and a doctorate in professional leadership from the University of Houston.
Steve has dedicated his clinical career to Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery within the Department of Surgical Oncology, where he now serves as an Advanced Practice Provider Manager and Associate Program Director of Educational Development. He is also an adjunct clinical instructor for the BCM PA Program, a past Distinguished Young Alumnus Award recipient, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of PAs.
A recognized leader in oncology advanced practice, Steve serves on the Board of Directors for the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO) and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Advanced Practitioners in Oncology. He is a past president of the Association of PAs in Oncology (APAO) and the 2023 recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award. He also founded the Surgical Oncology Advanced Practitioner (SOAP) Conference and contributes to national efforts through the Society of Surgical Oncology’s (SSO) APP Committee.
Beyond his clinical and organizational leadership, Steve is an ICF-certified executive leadership coach and John Maxwell Leadership Team Member with a passion for developing the next generation of health care leaders. He is a frequent speaker nationally and internationally on GI and HPB surgery, oncology advanced practice, professionalism, psychological safety, and leadership and career development.
