I had the opportunity to work with Virginia during my time as Head of Youth Services as well as the Communications and Marketing Specialist at Onslow County Public Library. Virginia was an excellent director to work under. Her leadership is more than transactional. It’s collaborative, and focused on long-term impact. She built strong relationships with local schools, the college, and community partners, which strengthened our programs and reach. Her skills in strategic planning, team development and grants moved the library system forward. Virginia created an environment where staff could grow, contribute ideas, and feel supported. I had the wonderful privilege of having Virginia as my coach while I was attending with the Honor Foundation this year. Her down-to-earth approach to my transition helped clear up some the unknowns as I transition into the civilian world. Her ability to focus my wants and concerns during this time shows how much she invests in taking cared of others. One of my biggest fears was the interview process, Virginia helped alleviate that by conducting a few mock interviews with so that I was better prepared. Her ability to connect me with other veterans she has coached was very valuable as I was able to reach out to them and get further mentorship. Virginia has been one of the most reliable and driven leaders I have worked with in Toastmasters. She stays focused on goals, supports the entire team, and steps into any role the club needs without hesitation. I work with Distinguished Toastmaster Virginia Sharp March on an almost weekly basis. We are members of the same Toastmasters Club, where we also work together on the Club's leadership team. Virginia comes to every interaction with kindness, professionalism and a genuine human touch. Whether it is a 1 to 1 conversation before a meeting or collaborating as part of a larger team, Virginia comes with a listening ear and helpful actions. To offer an anecdote - Virgina offers her constant support to members as the Vice President of Education for our Toastmasters Club. Going above and beyond in her role, she hosts monthly meetings (at minimum) where anyone in the club can come to her for education-related support. I, personally, have benefitted from Virginia's support; enabling me to advance myself within Toastmasters and as a public speaker at-large. She brings a phenomenal perspective from her multiple careers as a librarian, coach and travel guru which elevates any room she finds herself in. If there is ever a question I have on any of those three topics (or just want to have an engaging conversation), she is one of my first ports of call. I look forward to continued work with Virginia whether it is Toastmasters-related or not!

I had the pleasure of attending today’s Conversations, Connections & Coffee session on How to Work with Complicated People, and I want to commend the speaker for delivering such a thoughtful and engaging presentation. The session was both insightful and relatable, highlighting the reality that we are all complicated in our own ways. The speaker skillfully emphasized the importance of empathy, connection, and understanding as essential tools for navigating complex interpersonal dynamics. Their ability to foster open dialogue and create a welcoming space for reflection made the experience especially impactful. Overall, it was a meaningful and valuable discussion that left me with practical takeaways for both personal and professional relationships. I look forward to future sessions with this speaker!
