I am Professor Emeritus and UHERO Senior Research Fellow at the of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I specialize in macroeconomics, econometric modeling and forecasting, and policy analysis. Recent research studies the impact of aging on global patterns of trade and finance, the effect of COVID-19 on trade and the economy, and the implications of global value chain production arrangements.
I have a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the University of Puget Sound. I have had visiting appointments at a number of prestigious foreign universities, and I have been an Affiliated Researcher with the United Nations forecasting and analysis project.
I have been named a LinkedIn Top Voice and a Top Voice for North America for my influential analysis and commentary on economic issues.
I have served in volunteer leadership roles with academic, religious, and community organizations. For co-founding UHERO, I was awarded the Hung Wo and Elizabeth Lau Ching Award for Faculty Service to the Community.
