James Goff — A Journey from Aspiring Leader to Leader of Leaders
Every leader starts somewhere. For James Goff, it started with a young man who wanted to matter—who looked at the people around him and wondered whether he had what it took to lead, to serve, to make a difference that outlasted himself.
More than 45 years later, he has lived out the answer. Across those decades, James has been a student of leadership, a practitioner of it, and a developer of leaders—both in and out of uniform.
The United States Army shaped the foundation. Over 26 years of service, rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class, James learned that leadership isn’t a title you’re handed—it’s a discipline you build, a character you forge, and a responsibility you carry for the people who depend on you. He led soldiers through hard seasons, high stakes, and the kind of pressure that reveals who a person truly is. His leadership also carried into civilian service through his years with the United States Postal Service, where he proved that the principles forged in the military translate to any team, any mission, any place people are counted on to deliver.
But James’s story didn’t end when the uniform came off. It transformed. Retirement, he discovered, wasn’t a finish line—it was a refueling. He coined the word reFIREment to describe it: the season where experience becomes investment, where everything you’ve learned gets poured into the next generation. That conviction sent him on a new mission. He became a John Maxwell Certified Executive Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Speaker, and a certified DISC practitioner, founding Goff Enterprises LLC in Springfield, Missouri, to equip leaders, teams, veterans, and couples to grow on purpose.
What sets James apart is the blend only he could bring: Maxwell, Military, and Men’s Ministry. Maxwell’s proven leadership principles give his message its framework. Twenty-six years in uniform give it its grit. And a faith lived out loud gives it its heart. Together, those three streams form a voice that’s practical, battle-tested, and deeply human.
That faith is no add-on—it’s the anchor. James is a servant member of Life.Church, where alongside his wife, Katrina, he pours into others through his influence and a couples Life Group. He and Katrina share what they lovingly call a “big, beautiful, blended family”—8 adult children and 20 grandchildren—living proof that the work of leadership begins at home.
Today, James leads a family of brands built around one belief: that growth is available to anyone willing to do the work. Through Hero2Home Veterans Programs, the Goff Academy of Leadership Excellence, and Marriage Fitness Training, he serves the people closest to his heart—those who’ve served, those who lead, and those who want to build something that lasts.
He’s also an aspiring author with several projects in the works, turning decades of hard-earned wisdom into books meant to outlive the stage. And yes—he’s also a former Elvis Tribute Artist, because James has never believed that depth and joy can’t share a spotlight.
The aspiring leader who once wondered if he had what it takes now spends his days helping others discover that they do. That’s the journey. That’s the mission. And for James Goff, the best chapters are still being written.
