Wendy Cocke is the author of the best selling book Making Flex Work: Defining Success on Your Own Terms and the forthcoming book Reimagine Your Work: Managing Your Career Like It's Your Business as well as the founder of Engineering Leadership Solutions LLC, where she strengthens organizations through the development of people, processes, and best practices.

Wendy grew up being told she could be anything and learned first-hand that through hard work and perseverance a small business can become the lifeblood that fuels a family. She is a chemical engineer by training and spent over 20 years in Fortune 500 companies prior to opening her own technical consulting company and joining the faculty at Georgia Tech.

She worked her way from engineer to project leader to manager and then director, serving in both R&D and manufacturing & supply chain operations, transitioning seamlessly between technical and operational roles before leading the project management organization. Throughout her career she has led large, international projects and coordinated resources across time zones, borders, and languages, including the launch of two major medical devices. She is pragmatic in her approach and passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for the business and for customers.

About ten years into her career, when her oldest child was still an infant, Wendy pursued a flexible work arrangement that would allow her to balance all aspects of her life. She was told that, though the company supported her desire to pull back, her career would stall and she would never move up in the organization. Little did they know that the change to her work schedule would be the catalyst that would propel her career.

As a working mother, Wendy has redefined success for herself according to her values, balancing work and life so that she can drive results while still spending the quality time needed to raise her children and support her extended family.

Wendy believes that with her experience and her engineering mindset, she can help people find their place at work and thrive once they get there. She works with people who want to think about work differently by speaking to employee audiences and providing consulting to corporate leaders looking to drive retention and productivity.
