Theresa Roth
My message focuses on the transforming individuals into better leaders through situational awareness and and emotional intelligence.
Theresa Roth, PhD, RN, has served in healthcare for over 38 years. During this time she has witnessed many transitions within organizations internal and external to the healthcare industry. Using a critical care nursing background, Dr. Roth transitioned into various leadership roles, leading at various levels from bedside nurses to the C-Suite, executive level as Chief Operating Officer. Throughout these decades she has established a leadership foundation that is relationship-based.
Dr. Roth does not waiver from the desire to make thise around her better. She is committed to empowering individuals and creating opportunities for them to transform into better leaders. She is a longstanding leader, educator and mentor through her deep involvement in her community and organizatins. She has impacted thousands of lives both within and outside the hospital walls. As a practitioner, Theresa has touched — and positively influenced — virtually every facet of healthcare: providing direct care to patients as a nurse in the critical care and surgical intensive care units; elevating the nursing profession and the patient experience through her roles as Director of Nursing, Director of Critical Care, and Chief Operating Officer at several hospitals; and as an adjunct instructor in nursing and business at the baccalaureate, graduate, and doctorate levels. Described as a woman of integrity and compassion who is wholeheartedly committed to excellence in everything she does.
In addition, Theresa has played an active role in preparing the next generation of nurses for success in the workplace as a faculty member at a number of colleges and universities. She has taught baccalaureate- and masters-level nursing and business courses at Regis (2003–2014) and Ashland Universities (2003–2012) and served as a graduate-level academic advisor. Additionally, Theresa has instructed Ph.D. students at Saybrook University in San Francisco while simultaneously revising curriculum for MSN and MBA courses, and authoring and publishing articles on the patient experience, content definition for information systems, and master staffing plans for nursing units.
Theresa Roth is a key figure in her local communities, someone who has been engaged her entire life. Not only is she deeply involved with a number of local organizations that drive economic growth and advancements in healthcare, Theresa regularly steps into governance roles and guides these organizations through periods of tremendous growth and change — helping them become sustainable and, ultimately, reach a broader audience and maximize their impact.
Dr. Roth believes that if she doesn’t take care of herself, she won’t be able to take care of others. She began her journey towards physical and mental wellness when she was 36 — and over 200 pounds. Recognizing she was headed down a dangerous path, Theresa made a choice that changed her life. Over the past 20 years, she has completed countless marathons, including eight Marine Corps Marathons and seven Ironman triathlons. This includes a local triathlon, where she served as Race Director for six years to provide the safest possible experience for the athletes. She’s a longstanding, 20-year member of the USA Triathlon Association. In addition to the physical benefits, Theresa credits marathon/triathlon training with helping her through the pandemic as a healthcare worker. Helping Theresa balance the intensity of her work, running has built resiliency, helped release stress, and brought her to a better place mentally. This level of success requires an unprecedented amount of discipline and determination — and serves as an example to Theresa’s peers in healthcare and the community as a whole.
Theresa Roth is the 2023 recipient of the Athena Award in Richland County, Ohio for her influential leadership.
