A Thought Leader
While completing her doctorate in 2002, Dr. Laura focused on remote leadership, predicting a shift toward more flexible and mobile work. She has continued to innovate in this space as a pioneer in the future of work.
In 2013, she co-created assessments and training programs to help organizations succeed in remote environments and co-founded Work EvOHlution™, a start-up focused on developing leaders, teams, and cultures for hybrid and remote success. The company developed the Distributed Work Profiler, featured in Scientific American as the world’s first personality profile of a remote worker. Work EvOHlution™ was recognized as one of Alberta’s most innovative start-ups by Alberta Venture magazine and was featured multiple times at the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas.
As an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary, Dr. Laura collaborates with undergraduate and graduate students on research, currently focusing on the behaviors and impacts of toxic leadership.

Dr. Laura has contributed to numerous books and articles in the field of organizational psychology. Her latest book I Wish I'd Quit Sooner: Practical Strategies for Navigating and Escaping a Toxic Boss was released on January 13, 2026. She also co-authored Growing the Virtual Workplace in 2008.
In addition to her academic and professional writing, she is the author of two psychological thrillers, Losing Cadence and Finding Sophie. These books are currently being adapted for a television series. Through her writing, she aims to both entertain and raise awareness of critical issues such as mental health and domestic violence. She is also an advocate for ending violence against girls and women and actively supports initiatives that educate, fundraise, and drive awareness

She serves on nonprofit boards and committees aligned with her values, including co-founding the WITH HER movement to end violence against girls and women. She is also Chair on the Board of the Youth Singers of Calgary, a long-standing performing arts organization dedicated to developing confidence and leadership in young people.
Rather than striving for “work-life balance,” Dr. Laura focuses on work-life wellness—ensuring she remains energized and fulfilled across all areas of life. She lives in Calgary with her husband, Scott, and their three children, Nick, Matt, and Cadence, along with their two white, fluffy dogs. In her free time, she enjoys travel, squash, hiking, yoga, music, and downhill skiing.
