With over thirty-five years of service, including twenty-one years as an officer in the US Army and over fourteen years as a high school teacher, Dr. Mays has dedicated his life to developing and cultivating leaders of all ages and stages.
During his time in the military, Dr. Mays was assigned to the US Army Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and as a Professor of Military Science to the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Central Michigan University (CMU), Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Both are US Army commissioning sources. Under Dr. Mays leadership from 2004-2008, he increased the rank of the CMU ROTC program by over 60%, propelling their status to be in the top 40 of all programs across the nation.
In addition to leadership cultivation, Dr. Mays has extensive experience within the realm of athletic coaching and has been invited to speak to sports teams including the football teams at CMU, the University of Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan University, and Eastern Kentucky University among many others. His vast knowledge and expertise developing and maintaining a positive team climate and culture has driven his successful efforts as a 30-year coach of basketball and tennis at the levels of high school varsity, college club, and garrison military teams.
In April 2021, Gregg published his first book, Practical Leadership: Lessons From an Average Leader. Rooted in personal experience from the battlegrounds to the classroom, Dr. Mays shares immediately applicable and practical advice for readers and leaders of all generations.
