In my first few months at the credit union, I discovered two priorities - we needed to better serve those in our community who were of modest means, and we need to deliver loan decisions and fundings more quickly. The loan application to decision time, and the decision time to the funding time, were way too long, with the average time stretching beyond 10 days. Let’s face it. When talking about members of modest means, 10 days is really an unreasonable waiting period. Denise visited our credit union in February of 2023 and our leadership and staff fell in love with her. While we had racked up a long list of significant accomplishments prior to Denise’s visit, most had come to fruition with a very long lead time and after hours and hours of meetings. Five months after Denise’s visit and presentation, we implemented a new subprime auto lending program. The program utilizes an automated but complex risk analysis along with an INSTANT underwriting decisioning. This increased the speed of delivery significantly. Implementing this project involved subject matter experts from across our organization including executive leadership, branch operations, loan underwriting and administration, collections, accounting, and compliance. Working together, collaboratively across several functional areas of the credit union, we brought this subprime lending product to market in 18 days! In the 30 days following the launch, we realized over $4M in new subprime loans funded in an incredibly competitive market overrun by captives and banks who were writing many loans below the prime. My calculator does not even have enough spaces to calculate the ROI of implementing Can-Do-Ology at our credit union. Thank you, Denise! You can come back anytime!
