Best selling author and illustrator Trevor Romain sees himself as Monty Python meets Dr. Suess at Jerry Seinfeld's house in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. "I want children to laugh, learn, love and be moved while reading my books," says Trevor. Trevor has published 27 books with over 500,000 copies in print. His books have been translated into 12 languages including Japanese, Korean, Greek, Spanish and Hebrew. Trevor Romain has been writing children's stories since he was eight years old. "I remember telling my dad I wanted to write books when I grew up. 'Why wait until then?' said my father. 'Why not do it now?' So I did. I wrote my first story in third grade and I have been writing ever since." Besides writing, illustrating, speaking at schools, drinking tea and avoiding trouble, the South African-born Romain cares a lot about sick children. Much of his motivation and enthusiasm comes from the experiences he had at the Children's Hospital at Brackenridge where he was often found doing his rounds as The Doctor of Mischief. "I learned more from those children than I ever learned at school," says Romain. "And I have taken what I learned from them and woven their compassion, bravery, humor and love of life into the stories I write." Trevor visits hospitals as often as he can while traveling around the country on his school speaking tours. Trevor has spoken to over 200,000 school children over the last ten years and has had countless articles written about his work and attempts to enrich children's lives. Trevor receives thousands of letters annually from principals, teachers, and students whom he has touched with his humor, spirit and ability to motivate. Trevor Romain has won numerous awards for his work and six of his non-fiction books have received Parents Choice and Parent's Council awards. He has appeared on many television and radio talk shows throughout the United States and overseas. A number of his books are part of the "Read America" selection. Trevor is well known for his work in the community. He is a board member of the National Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation .
