The presenting team is awesome; Diane's energy is contagious and I absolutely love her humor. It reminds me of my best days of full time classroom teaching.

I have had the privilege to work with Dr. Diane McElwain for the past 12 years at the Salem campus of Kent State University. We have worked together as Early Childhood adjunct professors, teaching juniors and seniors in the Early Childhood Teaching program. I also served as the Director of the Early Childhood Program and she was a strong support for me and someone that I placed complete trust in. Dr. McElwain displays strong organizational skills along with patience and compassion for all learners. She is composed in her presentations and creates strong student-centered learning activities based on the needs she has gathered from verbal interaction, visual observation and previous performance of her students. She is extremely well versed in her subject and the expected outcomes, engaging her student's continuality to broaden their understanding. Diane is very strong in providing active learning activities for her students. She recognizes the multiple and differing needs of students and effectively plans well-structured lessons and activities with teaching, practice, intervention, differentiation and assessment. She is very competent in assessment, analyzing the results and then using the data to drive instruction. She demonstrates this process to the students and works with them, enabling them to become competent. Dr. McElwain exhibits strong people skills and works well with all students and staff. She is friendly, energetic, and develops strong caring relationships with all her students. She maintains high expectations for students but also keeps in contact with student to see how they are doing and how she can help. She is committed to her student's success. Diane is a team player and consistently seeks her colleague's thoughts and support in solving all problems. What she believes she practices, and you see it in her actions. I believe Dr. Diane McElwain is an excellent Early Childhood educator evidenced in her work both in and out of the classroom.
