Ascend to Servant Leadership
In the 21 Laws, John Maxwell states the Law of Addition as, “Leaders add value by serving others.” Authors Kouzes and Posner define Servant Leadership as, “A leader whose actions and motivations reflect a selfless commitment to a cause, an organization, or their teammates.” A true Servant Leader is others-centered. Inclusive Leadership
The value and benefit of having a highly diverse team can only be realized with a culture of inclusiveness. Inclusive leaders cultivate an environment where everyone on their team feels safe, valued, welcome, and as though they belong. Our organization was at a crossroads, having experienced rapid growth and then having some senior staff leave for other career opportunities. This forced increased pressure on all levels of management, and several of these managers were not properly prepared to handle increased staff stress due to staffing issues and COVID fatigue. They were unprepared to handle the situation professionally themselves. We were in need of leadership training and self-awareness training. Since working with Darryl in January, in both a team setting and individual coaching sessions, there has been a true change in the management team. They have gained a better understanding of themselves, their strengths and weaknesses, how they communicate, and the importance of taking time for personal growth. The morale at the organization has improved dramatically and staff is much more engaged. Darryl has been exceptional to work with. His understanding of leadership, teamwork, and personal growth has made a great impact with the management team and their professional development. Darryl is a great listener and has provided a workable path to successful growth but earning trust so that team members can communicate in an open honest fashion. This has led to a greater understanding of one another and provided a backdrop to have truly powerful conversations to move the organizational needle forward in a positive direction.
