As a physician, I bought into the "work hard/play hard" mentality. I worked long hours in the office, plus 24-hour on-call shifts, skipped meals, grabbed take-out on the way home, used alcohol to unwind, then took pills to get me to sleep. I'd wake up and do it all over again!
It was a set-up for burnout and for my health to crash. Over time, that's exactly what happened. I was diagnosed with three chronic diseases that got me placed on medications to manage, but not cure them. I finally hit bottom when I developed facial nerve shingles.
The blisters were dangerously close to my left eye and excruciatingly painful! It was the wake-up call I needed to push me to take action.
I will always be grateful for expanding my knowledge in Functional Medicine and getting my Health Coaching certification. Through coaching I have changed how I live my life. My lifestyle and nutrition changes helped me to lose 50 pounds and get off toxic medications. I sleep better, and have more energy and clarity of mind.
As a recently awakened physician/health coach, I am called to work outside of the conventional medicine model that trained me.
