Improvisational troupe recognized worldwide for its comedic focus on the serious issues in education
Founded on the premise that humor heals and enlightens, the comedy troupe Wavelength has won acclaim from audiences around the world for its comedic focus on the serious issues in education. Former high school English teacher Jim Winter created Wavelength in 1980 after sitting through one too many boring in-service days. Featuring a diverse cast of actors, Wavelength offers a fresh perspective on the key challenges in education today. Teacher magazine wrote that a Wavelength presentation is "like an edition of 'Saturday Night Live' written especially for educators." And by focusing on the humorous aspects of education, they know they'll never run out of material. The group has performed for over one million people in educational organizations worldwide and has been featured at national conferences for ASCD, AASA, NSDC, NASSP, NAESP, NEA, AFT, NMSA, and the I.D.E.A. Fellows Program. They've also been featured on CBS and ABC television in Chicago, "The New York Times," "The Washington Post" and "USA Today." Wavelength programs are consistently rated "the best in-service ever," and have been shown to profoundly impact an organization's culture. Wavelength believes that nothing builds community like a theatrical experience that satirizes, parodies and celebrates the profession of teaching, and they strive to create a professional development day that will be memorable and inspirational.
