Author of "Courtney's Creative Adventures" heralded as "the Mary Poppins for the new millennium"
Former grade school teacher and current television personality, author, illustrator, and kids' creativity expert, Courtney Watkins has been heralded as "the Mary Poppins for the new millennium." She has worked nationally as a creative consultant with families who are interested in further enhancing their children's creativity and with schools who are looking to add creative flair to their curriculum. Raised in Kansas City, Watkins received a degree in journalism from the University of Kansas. Following graduation, she began teaching French to grade schoolers while continuing to hone her skills as an illustrator and writer. In 1994, she moved to New York City to further pursue her creative endeavors and teach third grade and kindergarten at Grace Church School in Greenwich Village. Once settled in Manhattan, she launched The Backyard, an award-winning, creative enrichment program for children developed "to entertain, inspire and bolster kids with an I-can-do confidence." Shortly after the program was launched, the word was out about Watkins' extraordinary ability to inspire children and parents. It was only a matter time before her magic appeared on television as well. Soon she was making appearances on shows including "The Donny & Marie Show" and HGTV's "Smart Solutions." Watkins has worked with families and schools who are committed to nurturing children and their creativity. With her whimsical and playful manner, her goal is to cultivate creative thinking by engaging, entertaining and empowering children. Her unique approach stresses inspiring enthusiasm, encouraging creative thinking, providing fun facts and inspiration, and helping children to discover the entertainment of the everyday for themselves. With a gentle tug on their potential and a few colorful secrets, Watkins ushers kids into the best seats of childhood. In addition to multiple television appearances, Watkins has written and illustrated the children's book "Courtney's Creative Adventures."
