Comedian recognized by the American Comedy Awards at "Best Female Stand-Up Comedian"
In 1987, Kathleen Madigan graduated form Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a degree in journalism. She was working as a waitress and journalist in St. Louis, Missouri, when she stumbed upon an amateur night at the St. Louis Funny Bone Comedy Club. After trying her hand during open mic night, Madigan was hooked by the experience and continued to pound the pavement looking for stage time. Madigan has since made the most of her career, winning "Best Female Stand-Up Comedian" at the American Comedy Awards, a title and recognition few comedians experiece. She filmed her own Half Hour Comedy Special for HBO and starred in the "The Couch," a pilot project produced by "Happy Days" alumnus Henry Winkler for Comedy Central. She also performed in Melbourne, Australia, where she taped for the special Comedy Central's World Comedy Tour. Working mainly in the United States, Madigan has performed internationally, including an appearance at the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and a performance at London's Comedy Store. She's also branched out from stand-up appearances to star in a national television commercial for US West and has covered numerous off-beat sporting events for ESPN 2's "Sports Night." She is a 12- time veteran of "The Tonight Show," and has appeared frequently on "Late Night with David Letterman" and "The Conan O'Brien Show." Other television appearances include starring in the Bob Hope special "Ladies of Laughter" and CBS's "NFL Comedy Jam." Madigan's most recent release is a CD entitled "Shallow Happy Thoughts For The Soul."
