Host of HGTV's "Surprise Gardener" and author of "Everyday Styling" and "Styling for Entertaining"
Susie Coelho is today's freshest force in lifestyling. As the lifestyle contributor on NBC's "Today" show, Coelho brightens America's mornings with her smile and segments on subjects such as seasonal decorating, drying flowers, dining al fresco and more. When she's not working with "Today," Coelho can be found down in the dirt for Home & Garden Television's top-rated series "Surprise Gardener," where each week she and her Green Team surprise a lucky homeowner with a one-day garden makeover. HGTV also calls on Coelho to host special productions, which in the past year have included the network's "Dream Home Giveaway 2000," "The Making of the 2000 and the 2001 Rose Parade," and "The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival." Coelho has also appeared on many other shows, such as "Oprah," "Access Hollywood," and many more. Her personal appearance schedule includes grand opening for Target, Sears, Lowes, and Orchard Supply Hardware's "Mega How-To Fairs," as well as museum gatherings, charity functions, women's groups, and home and garden shows across the country. Coelho partnered with Department 56 on the creative development of their eight page Village collections layout for the December 2001 issues of "Martha Stewart Living," "Victoria," and "Country Living" magazines. Coelho's first lifestyle book, "Everyday Styling: Easy Tips for Home, Garden & Entertaining," was published in February 2002. Her newest book, "Styling for Entertaining," will be released fall 2003. Fans seeking her insight will also find it in the lifestyle column she pens for "Palm Springs Life" magazine, as well as the Lifestyles Center on her web site. Coelho attributes her unique mix of practical technique and sophisticated sensibility to growing up on both sides of the Atlantic. Born in England of East Indian parents, she spent several years in Paris soaking in the European sense of style, design, fashion and food while prowling the markets and museums. Washington, DC, was home during high school, and there she acquired the American spirit of self-reliance. She studied at Washington's American University, then moved to New York to sign with the exclusive Ford Modeling Agency. Gracing the covers of national and international women's magazines led Coelho to her on-camera career. As a television host, Coelho covered star-studded events such as the Emmys, the Grammys, and the Academy Awards for HBO Entertainment News, and lent her chic sense and snappy smarts to many other shows as a style expert, fashion reporter, and celebrity interviewer. Transplanted to the West Coast, she sharpened her entrepreneurial and lifestyling skills by opening the successful Bono's restaurants in Los Angeles and Houston with then-husband Sonny Bono. She also opened the very vogue A Star Is Worn on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, a boutique selling celebrity clothing and collectibles with a portion of proceeds benefiting various charities. Coelho's multimedia company, Susie Coelho Enterprises, Inc., is rapidly expanding and has projects in development that span the spectrum from books to products, e-commerce, and television. She keeps busy putting all the pieces together with trademark pragmatism and verve to make style second nature for her viewers, readers and fans. With her famous "just do it" attitude, Coelho has a creative sense of style that's clearly caught the nation's eye.
