
Flying Balalika Brothers
Balalaika Brothers started as a band in 1995 in Los Angeles California. Performing mostly in local venues and on the streets of Santa Monica ( 3rd Street Promenade). Later the band members classically trained guitarist and accordionist Zhenya Kolykhanov ( aka Zhenya Rock) and bass balalaika player Oleg Bernov grouped with Igor Yuzov and started playing under the name of Red Hot Karl Marx Brothers and later as Red Elvises. Zhenya and Oleg continued playing as Red Elvises while Balalaika Brothers became a side project of Zhenya until 2005, the year Zhenya left Los Angeles based Red Elvises and relocated to Austin TX where he teamed up with conservatory-trained prima balalaika virtuoso Sergey Vashchenko.
Now Austin based Balalaika Brothers 4 piece band and usually performs 4 different programs, from folk to electric rock, for diverse audiences depending on the event, from high energy festival shows to sitting down acoustic shows also playing shows for private occasions and weddings.
