Nicole Garneau
Ph.D.
CO, USDescribed as having "uncompromising science chops with the ability to entertain and excite," Dr. Garneau brings science to the table. Her goal is to speak to empower, using science as a foundation for individual and team growth. She is a sought-after public speaker on both personal and professional topics, including mental health, women in business, taste science, and taking teams on guided taste journeys to promote awareness of differing perspectives.
As a trained geneticist, Dr. Garneau's interest in flavor science stems from the things that make use unique in how we perceive the world around us. She teaches how we each bring so much to the table, including genetics, learned behavior and the intangible human element. In food and drink this last piece is fascinating because it includes cultural upbringing, nostalgia, risk-tolerance, and social reinforcement. In this way, learning more from Dr. Garneau about how you are unique in your perception of flavor can help open doors to how you are unique in how you view the world. This awareness imparts confidence, opens doors of the entrepreneurial spirit, brings diverse teams together, and empowers us all to believe in success no matter where we are in our careers.
Dr. Garneau's formal training led her to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where she served from 2009-2019 as the Curator of Human Health and directed the Genetics of Taste Lab. In addition to her day job, she is the founder of three flavor-focused companies related to her work studying taste and her interest in food and beverage science. In this capacity, Dr. Garneau serves as a consultant to food companies, breweries, wineries, distilleries, vendors, and restaurants. She is the co-author of the Beer Flavor Map and co-founder of the digital app company, DraughtLab.
Dr. Garneau believes science should be for the people and by the people, and uses this a foundation, along with food tastings and analogies, to deliver her signature presentations ranging from flavor science to bias, from mental health to overcoming failure. As a sought-after public speaker and science communicator, she has had the honor of being an invited presenter stateside at MileHigh TEDx, the Great American Beer Festival, the Craft Brewers Conference, and many scientific conferences including the American Society for Microbiology and Experimental Biology, and abroad in Turkey, Sweden, and Mexico. She has been featured on television, radio and online outlets, including NPR's TED Radio Hour, The Brain Scoop with Emily Graslie, People Behind the Science with Dr. Marie McNeely.

In this fun and non-threatening way, organizations can more effectively recognize, respect and utilize the diverse talents each team member...
