Maverick Sabre
Promising the same killer vocals that cemented his position as the biggest breakout star of 2012 and an even further developed knack for storytelling, Maverick Sabre is back with a third album and accompanying tour seven years after releasing his debut. *When I Wake Up * features collaborations from Jorja Smith and Chronixx and comes with incredible supporting visuals that speak to 28-year-old Maverick Sabre's (real-name Michael Stafford) overarching vision for the project: namely, to tell untold Irish stories.
Stafford, who grew up in County Wexford, travelled back to Ireland to shoot videos for "Her Grace", a sensitive exploration of domestic violence featuring Chronixx, "Drifting", which captures youth and young manhood in a small town, and for the most recent single from the album, the soulful "Slow Down" featuring long-time collaborator and friend Jorja Smith, where he plays a taxi driver. Independently released, this socially charged album marks a new era of creative freedom for Stafford, who tackles everything from religion and love to war and Grenfell over 13 tracks. To celebrate the release of When I Wake Up, we sat down with Stafford to find out all about his formative firsts, from how he first got into music and his first big fashion blow-out to the first thing he'd do as prime minister.
