Captain Keith Colburn is the very definition of the American success story. In 1985, Keith flew to Alaska with a one-way ticket, a backpack, and $50. Having no contacts or even the internet to research job opportunities, Keith took a gamble that his thirst for adventure and strong work ethic would be enough to land him a fishing job. Today, 30 years later, Keith is one of a select few self-made, independent crabbers, and is looked to as a respected industry leader.
Keith continues to expand his interests in entertainment, as an influential spokesperson, motivational speaker and in the culinary arts where he became a classically trained Chef before the age of 22. Keith is now known to millions of television viewers as the Captain of the Wizard on the hit television show, Deadliest Catch.
Keith is a sought after motivational speaker who has addressed distinguished and diverse audiences across North America. He shares advice on being successful in today's hyper-competitive business environment by providing parallels between his life as a Captain and day to day business operations within a high stress industry. Keith's intellect, wit, and charisma make him a truly engaging speaker, spokesperson and entertainer.

The unusual effects of the fishery shutdown put Captain Keith Colburn in front of Capitol Hill addressing the lack of administrative personnel to manage quota allocation to go out and fish for crab. He was the most eloquent person on Capitol Hill speaking directly to Congress asking them to "just do your jobs so fisherman can go fishing". He addressed the serious effects this shutdown will have on the economy; it was a moment that will rank up there as a time when the lack of confidence in Congress may be hard to recover from.

We really appreciated having Keith speak at the conference, and also that he participated in some of the sessions and social events so people had a chance to talk with him on a number of issues. He is a very interesting and entertaining personality, but also someone whom fishermen and managers can relate to and respect as a contemporary.

… The keynote speaker was Keith Colburn, Captain of the Wizard, from the Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch … he did an admirable job discussing the importance of picking the right vendors to work with, ones who have adequate support resources and top notch technology. He related some of the problems he's had in the Bering Sea and how he attempts to mitigate risk as much as possible but sometimes discovers problems that he never anticipated. That's where the tie-ins with vendor choice came together.
