Tim Bays
Tim Bays is a speaker, humorist, and musical presenter who uses songs and stories to entertain and inspire. He is a joyful, engaging, and moving performer who has shared concert bills with Sarah Vaughn, Taj Mahal, Meatloaf, John Prine, Leo Kottke, and Dr. John. A songwriter with recordings by Randy Travis, Doug Stone, The Forrester Sisters, and a 2002 humorous release by Jerry Springer, he has written motivational themes for such companies as GE, Delta, and Sara Lee, as well as being a recognizable voice in commercials for Coca Cola, Delta, Goodyear, and McDonalds.
Over the past 30 years Tim has performed thousands of club, college, and concert dates as a solo acoustic artist, written hundreds of songs as a staff writer for Sony Music in Nashville, TN, and recorded countless "spots" as a voiceover talent and singer. In addition he has taught songwriting and copyright law at Music Business Institute in Atlanta, GA, been a children's performer, an actor, and the musical accompaniment to a pantomime troupe.
All of which has given Tim ample opportunity to study perseverance, the power of visualization, and how to maintain a smile in the face of adversity. Experience has taught him both the difficulty in chasing your dreams and the joy in catching them. In 2002 Tim released a CD, "Everyday Magic," following 1996's "Better Than The TV." He is currently at work on a collection of stories, "Frog Crossing," and a new CD, "Love & Otherwise," for release in 2003.
MOST REQUESTED TOPICS:
Everyday Magic: You Must Be Present To Win
(Keynote) People say "stop and smell the roses," but mostly step on them in hurrying to an appointment. Our present is given over to fixing the past or building the future, to regret versus hope ... nostalgia versus fear. But it is in the moment that our answers lie, where we can find gratitude and be in touch with a larger, timeless picture; where "if only" and "what if" become a sunrise, a child's smile, a song. Since we can't take it with us, the least we can do is experience it while we're here. (Developing a work/life balance and finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.)
Goal-Setting and Visualization: Find A Good Enough Reason
(Keynote or Workshop) If you don't have a clearly defined goal you'll probably get there! Without a strategic plan, arriving at even a clear goal may make for a crooked path. And, even if you have a strategic plan and a clearly defined goal, you must have passion to achieve it or the obstacles along the road will seem too great to overcome. So even as you ask WHAT you would like to achieve it's equally important to know WHY. The key to moving mountains is to know which mountain and having a good enough reason to move it.
Stress Management: Lighten Up
(Keynote or Workshop) Stress is a thief ... of our energy, health, productivity and happiness. As allergies overwhelm our immune systems, so stress overwhelms our ability to cope. But while we recognize the stress created by outside forces, we often don't see the internal stresses created by anger, fear, bitterness and self-defeating beliefs. This is NORMAL, the stress we carry EVERY DAY before anything goes wrong! The first defense is to reduce the emotional baggage and then to use a positive attitude, diet, exercise, adequate rest and a sense of humor to further lighten the load.
