Hayley Barnard is a British professional speaker, consultant and high-level trainer on subjects including the business case for diversity, inclusive leadership, D&I communications and unconscious bias. She is passionate about inspiring business leaders to adopt the principle that diversity isn't about difference, it's about excellence. She tackles issues surrounding unconscious bias and inclusiveness with humor, ensuring that her ideas have real value for audiences' working lives.
Hayley combines the latest research on inclusion of diversity with first hand experience, helping a wide range of companies to build the inclusive leadership capabilities of their leaders. In the last year alone Hayley has:
Designed an Inclusive Leadership program for the top 600 leaders at Deutsche Telekom (delivered via WebEx in groups of 15-20)
Delivered a change management program for BAE Systems focusing on 'embracing difference' and 'collaboration' as a move away from traditional comms around Inclusion & Diversity,
Provided board level briefings and senior leadership training for clients including Aspect Capital, Legal and General Investment Management, Lloyds, Skanska, Morgan Sindall, De La Rue, T-Systems and Babcock.
One of the most innovative projects that Hayley has headed up is the LeasePlan Women's Arctic Challenge in which she co-led a team of women on a traverse of Baffin Island, trekking and camping for 11 days at minus 40 degrees C. Hayley worked with LeasePlan to develop this unique platform to communicate the gender balance issue and challenge unconscious bias within their company and the wider car industry – the project also involved 150 schools in an education program.
When not at work or at home Hayley can usually be found swimming in the nearest stretch of open water: in August 2018 she completed the Around Manhattan Island swim race in 9 hours 30. She then successfully swam across the English Channel in October, taking 14 hours and 12 minutes to reach France. In 2019 Hayley is looking for a warmer challenge!

Biased, who me? An introduction to Unconscious bias
A light-hearted introduction to unconscious bias which works well for general sessions in a full company conference as it appeals to all levels of employees.
- What is unconscious bias;
- Why and how we all have them;
- How they can conflict with who we are and how we want to be;
- How we can catch ourselves being unconsciously biased
- Actions we can take to outsmart bias
Developing a gender balanced business
It's well publicized that companies in Europe are increasingly having to work harder to ensure they have a pipeline of women to senior level. The requirement on businesses over 250 employees to release their Gender Pay Gap in the UK has further highlighted the challenge.
Through case studies and using respected research, Hayley highlights the best practice of both men and women and the organisations they operate within.

A.C., Director of HR, Aspect Capital
"Hayley provided a comprehensive briefing to our Executive Board, immediately setting the room at ease with her engaging and personable manner. The directors found the session and exercises insightful, and discussion flowed freely and openly. The impact has been immediate, with our first female Board appointment, a revised approach to recruitment (leading to us hiring a female developer), and a revised flexible working policy. Hayley's contribution was vital - she demonstrated that Diversity and Inclusion isn't an HR issue but a company-wide opportunity."

"Hayley came to talk with our Diversi-T network about unconscious bias. Hayley's knowledge, passion and style really struck a chord with us and she has since returned to T-Systems to do some more in depth work with our board of directors and present to all our people managers on unconscious bias and how recognizing and understanding its impact can be used to instigate positive change in our organisation."
