Blending Out

Ashlee shares her unfiltered journey as a "Quad Outsider," a black, female, non-technical, tech founder. She details how she and her Mom/co-founder moved their business forward by embracing the discomfort of entrepreneurship while leaning authentically into themselves as they brought their software to market. From Nashville to Birmingham to sharing a full-size mattress for 14 weeks for the opportunity to pitch Steve Case (AOL Founder), Ashlee (hilariously) shares it all.

Engaging, energizing, and exciting - Ashlee's presentation (complemented by her witty and talented partner, Kerry) kept our students entertained and interested (no small feat) throughout her talk. She shared candidly about the 'real life' of a start-up founder and provided valuable and actionable advice to budding entrepreneurs in particular, but general lessons to all heading into the workforce soon. No reading assignment, case study, or class discussion can have the same effect as listening to Ashlee and Kerry tell their story!

You inspired alot of our girls and other students that feel a bit discouraged by CS and the Tech Industry. I've been trying to change the stereotype of our CS classes away from the all white boys club it's been in the past. I really feel that you made a positive impact in that regard.

From the moment they stepped on stage the audience knew they were in for something special. It's easy to see how everyone can personally connect with the problem Mixtroz solves - we've all been there - but what wow'd the audience was the candor, dynamism, truth, humor, and humility of co-founders Ashlee and Kerry. They may have been told they were 'quad outsiders' at the start, but their story of passion, perseverance, hard work, and hustle is powerful and will inspire generations to come.
