Simon May
Simon May composed the themes for EastEnders, Howards' Way, Trainer, Castaway, Animal Park, ITV Seoul Olympic Theme and Brat Camp. He also created the musical 'Smike' and hit songs 'Every Loser Wins' (Nick Berry no. 1 hit in UK), 'Always There' (Marti Webb), 'More To Life' (Cliff Richard), 'Summer of My Life' (Simon May), 'More Than In Love' (Kate Robbins) and also co-produced 'Knock On Wood' (Amii Stewart no.1 hit in USA).
Simon was a Choral Scholar at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he gained an M.A. Hons in French & German. He taught modern languages at Kingston Grammar School before signing to ATV Music as a professional songwriter.
Simon has received numerous awards and nominations for his music, including winning an Ivor Novello for 'Every Loser Wins' and three TRIC Awards for Best TV Theme for EastEnders, Howard's Way and Trainer.
In 2005 Simon co-wrote with Ben Robbins a number 1 hit song in Belgium. 'Fragile Not Broken' was performed by Natalie, the winner of the Belgian 'Pop Idol'.
Simon is visiting Professor at the Faculty of Media, Arts and Society, Southampton Solent University who in 2015 conferred on him the degree of Honorary Doctor of Music. He is also Patron of the Devizes Junior Eisteddfod, Vice President of the British Federation of Festivals and Patron of the Swindon 105.5 Community Radio Station. He currently teaches music therapy part time at his local school for Asperger students, Unsted Park near Godalming, Surrey.
His autobiography 'Doof Doof' My life in music and 3 CD Collection 'Doof Doof' (with abridged autobiography) are available from Austin Macauley Publishers and the Demon Music Group in August 2015.
