Merri Macartney
BA, BEd., CPC
ON, CANADAMerri Macartney has had more than her share of life's challenges and yet she stays positive and hopeful. What is her secret? It's her ability to face them head on with humor. She has come to realize that things could always be worse.
Abandonment, adoption, high-school dropout, practice marriages and single parenting were experiences that took Merri through the school of hard knocks. Finally, at age 40 she went to university and in 3 years and 11 days, she graduated with her BA and BEd. And engaged to a new husband.
During her near 20 years of teaching, Merri created and designed multiple subject courses for her high-schoolers and adults in continuing education programs. Upon retiring, she continued in research and development to offer her clients soft-skills training in communication and leadership.
In early 2013, Merri's husband contracted a terminal illness. Later when he needed 24/7 care, Merri suspended her speaking business. Not knowing much about health care, she hosted a Roger's TV talk show, Boomers to the Power of Three, in order to interview health professionals and others to help her learn about being a caregiver. The show ran for 4 ½ years.
Now, a professional keynote speaker as well, Merri talks on how humor can provide the emotional supercharge needed when facing adversity. Her belief is that humor not only changes yourself but also changes the people in your world.
