His popularity as a nationally renowned marriage and relationship expert quickly grew through his signature straightforward, no-nonsense advice. Michael's message inspires, motivates and challenges people to thrive in their most important relationships.
Michael's love story with his wife, Amy, began while he was an undergraduate at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. After graduation, he went on to earn a master's degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois. Michael Smalley has authored several best-selling relationship advice books including Communicating with Your Teen, The Men's Relational Toolbox, the DNA of Relationships, More than a Match, Don't Date Naked, and his latest book The Surprising Way to a Stronger Marriage.
For the past 20-years he has spoken to millions of people around the world through his live events, international evangelistic events, and special speaking. Michael has a passion to train and educate pastors, professionals, and lay people on how to restore and enrich couples in their own communities and churches.
He teaches with entertaining stories and illustrations, allowing audiences to learn through laughter. Which is why his "Comedy of Love Date Night" event hosted around the world is a huge hit with audiences. It's an inspirational comedy event, or as Michael likes to say, "It's comedy with a point." Michael and his wife, Amy, run the Smalley Institute, working hand-in-hand with couples through the Reignite program teaching valuable skils to maintain their marriages. They now have multiple centers across the country in cities like Dallas, Nashville, Branson, Las Vegas, Denver and more are being added each year.
Michael has enjoyed 20-years of marriage to only Amy and makes his home near Houston, Texas. They have three children, Cole, Reagan, and David.
