WI, USPeter M. Jonas, Ph.D.
It's easy to have fun (and learn) with Dr. Peter Jonas around, so go ahead, laugh at Peter, everyone else does. Peter is a professor of research and statistics in the doctoral leadership department at Cardinal Stritch University, and is well-known for my wise-cracking comments and lectures on humor. However, beneath the humor is a message: If you get people laughing, you can teach them anything.
Dr. Peter M. Jonas is currently a professor at Cardinal Stritch University and senior partner in Capacity Unlimited. He has made more than 300 presentations on the local, state, and national levels. Over the years, Peter has written three books in support of his research (but only the two books on humor are any good): Outcomes Assessment in Higher Education Linked with Strategic Planning and Budgeting [2nd ed.] (2013), Laughing and Learning: An Alternative to Shut-up and Listen (2009), Secrets of Connecting Leadership and Learning to Humor (2004).
Dr. Peter M. Jonas is not only a university professor, but has served as a consultant and professional speaker for 20 years. His main area of expertise is using humor to improve leadership, learning, and service. Dr. Jonas connects his research to brain-based concepts making his presentations engaing, relevant. and practical. And he does it all with a great sense of humor.

Brain-based Laughing, Learning, and Leadership
Engaging Audiences through Digital Media
The background, character, and learning styles of our individuals are drastically changing. Consequently, the communication techniques need to address these changes. This presentation will not only explore the research and practical components of using humor, but more specifically it will explain the practice of using technology in the form of short videos as a form of communication. The new teaching technique is called videagogy = video + pedagogy. Part...
Laughing and Learning: An Alternative to Shut Up and Listen
A variety of theoretical and empirical studies show that individuals can use humor not only to increase leadership but also to enhance the culture and increase the collaboration and community of organizations. My keynote will review a synthesis of the brain research behind using humor and its benefits involved with improving organizations, especially those initiating change. By grounding the work in empirical studies, the interactive presentation provides a theoretical model...
Servant Leadership
Servant leadership is one of the most popular leadership models around today. The concept was developed by Robert K. Greenleaf in 1970. Servant leadership is both a leadership philosophy and set of leadership practices. Traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power by one at the "top of the pyramid." By comparison, the servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible...
Professional Learning Communities
This workshop will focus on demystifying the concept of a professional learning community (PLC) and further reveal the important role dialogue among its members play in creating and sustaining a dynamic learning culture. Participants will assess their organizational culture, including perceptions of their organization in relation to vision, relationships, and practices to create initial plans for creating the conditions and actions necessary for creating a PLC and engaging in continuous...
Strategic Planning in Five Easy Steps.
Strategic planning is a process that facilitates communication about organizational direction and goals. In essence, it is a planning approach for further shaping and advancing the mission of the organization. The planning involves: clarification of purpose, assessment of status, focusing of priorities, alignment of strategy and actions, and monitoring of progress. It is an approach that engages stakeholders in active conversation around five guiding questions that form the backbone of the...
Technology and Teaching
Are you looking for research-based instructional strategies to improve student learning? Would you like to learn how to use technology with these instructional strategies?
This workshop begins with an overview of the research-based strategies for increasing student achievement. Participants learn to weave these strategies into instruction using their own lesson plans. Participants also take part in guided practice in using categories of technology with the instructional strategies:...Data Driven Decision Making
Research can be defined as the search for knowledge or any systematic investigation to establish facts. The primary purpose for applied research (as opposed to basic research) is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe. Research can use the scientific method, but need not do so. Data Driven Decision Making provides a structure - a set of...
Connecting Brain Research to Engaging Students
Transforming Leadership Through Humor and Brain Research
A variety empirical studies show that individuals can enhance and transform leadership through the use of humor. This presentation will provide the results of a meta-analysis and meta-synthesis on how humor can improve leadership through seven specific strategies. In addition to improving the culture of an organization, humor has been shown to increase the lines of communication, enhance the academic environment, improve creativity, build relationships, reduce stress, and...
