Rita Merienne

NSW, AUSTRALIA
An ageing workforce caring for an ageing population. As our parents age they require care, whether it is in your home, their home or an aged care facility.

Identify: Lead: Engage: Inspire – Rita has created a support network to identify, lead, engage, inspire to provide the care needed for businesses employing staff that are the sandwich generation.

Rita speaks from the heart to management and encourages audiences to recognise how an 'Ageing workforce caring for an Ageing population is costing their workplace".

What if you could reduce the crippling cost of unplanned absenteeism and increase productivity, profits and morale by addressing one of the most significantly misunderstood workplace issues – what would it mean for your business?

From personal experience Rita knows what it is like to face the challenges of working fulltime, raising a family and caring for an aged loved one. She also knows that the first thing that usually is affected is the workplace – increased absenteeism and reduced productivity. You just can't do it all.

Drawing on her 30 year plus experience in the Australian Public Service and Royal Australian Airforce Rita provides straightforward wisdom on fundamental topics and discusses such topics as providing support for staff and understanding the challenges of caring for aged loved ones.

Rita is passionate about easing the transition to aged care for all by filling the void and focusing on the emotions of aged care. Whether it is talking to individuals who need support, groups on how to create sustainable guilt free caring or employers/managers on how to reduce unplanned absenteeism due to their staff's caring responsibilities Rita engages her audience as she authentically delivers information people need to make the changes needed to change their lives.

The last three years have been hard on Rita. The sudden death of a beloved sister, the breakdown of a significant relationship, family illness and an ageing father. Through it all, Rita, with the help of her sisters navigated the care of her father. They had to find a suitable place for him to live, where he would be well cared for. They managed to get through it all and get it right, but they realised that they weren't alone. This is what thousands of baby boomers are living with today. And they knew that they could have used the help, but it wasn't there for them. The investigation, the paperwork and the emotions were a mindfield that needed to find a voice. They wanted to help others and their book, 'Tough...Tough Times...Tough Decisions' written with love and pain was the result.

Rita has spoken at a variety of events within Australia and internationally. A highlight was presenting an author talk at the Frankfurt International Book Fair on her book Tough...Tough Times...Tough Decisions.

The stories of the challenges that she and her siblings faced during their caring journey are funny, sad, informative and inspiring all at the same time.

I can relate so much to Rita's thoughts and feelings. Very inspirational.  I have found myself repeating her affirmations to myself each day and they seem to be helping.  Probably still have a long way to go, but is refreshing to know that I am not alone in the way that I feel.  You sometimes think you are the only one in the world feeling the way you do, so this has been very helpful in the fact that I am not exaggerating my feelings or emotions. Once again, thank you so much.  I will re-read the book again to take in any other things I may have missed instead of just relating immediately to how I feel.

Things have settled down a little bit now, it's crazy how when things first happen, we tend to panic like a fish out of water… Unfamiliar territory… It's a scary place when you first visit! Thank you for your speedy replies and for your help and info you provided. I thank God for you and your website. Thanks again.
