
Dianna Flett
Dianna is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and a combat veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm receiving several awards during her service including the Bronze Star for her work with deployed units in the desert, and the Legion of Merit in recognition of her career of service.
Dianna is also founder & CEO of Girl Smarts. Girl Smarts works with parents, school administration and teachers to instill the essence of leadership in fourth and fifth grade girls supporting their future success.
Dianna has spoken on several occasions to education professionals about her initiatives to empower and strengthen elementary school girls. Her innovative workshop series is spreading quickly throughout the state of Virginia. Since starting with 24 girls and four workshops in 2009 Girl Smarts has conducted hundreds of workshops empowering over a thousand girls in dozens of locations in Central and Northern Virginia.
Girl Smarts was featured as part of the National Conference on Girl Bullying and Relational Aggression in both 2013 and 2014, has been featured in PTO Today Magazine, in Veteran's Today Magazine and Dianna was a guest of the West Coast based Sprigeo Anti Bullying Program.
Dianna is also a frequent guest expert on "Sunday Mornings with Dee", a woman's issue focused radio talk show on B101.5. She has covered such issues as Body Image, Grit, and Helping our Girls Deal with Loneliness.
Dianna has spoken at public and private schools to give teachers strategies on how to effectively communicate with parents to create a team approach, minimize conflict and ensure the focus remains on doing what's best for the children. Her specific strategies give teachers tools to keep conversations and interactions within appropriate boundaries to foster positive and productive communication exchanges. She's been the kick off speaker for local elementary schools to share her unique perspectives as a mother of four boys, former PTO president, combat veteran and now active mentor to hundreds of girls.
Dianna's presentations to girls have taken place from Richmond to Arlington and everywhere in between in the state of Virginia. They are 60-90 minute assemblies that are suitable as stand alone workshops for any audience of girls over the age of 8 you are looking to empower. She has spoken to elementary and middle school girls about issues ranging from how to make a great first impression, how to turn dreams into goals and goals into reality, the Girl Smarts Guide to Leadership, the importance of grit and embracing failure, "when beauty becomes the beast", relationship navigation, and "Mean Girls-Why they do what they do". These presentations don't just present information, they engage the girls with hands on activities and give the girls specific strategies they can use to walk away stronger and better equipped to manage the realities of being a young tween and teen in today's world.
