Educate and entertain your audience with an interactive event on intersectional feminism featuring Beyoncé's music -- facilitated by the creator and teacher of "Politicizing Beyoncé"

Kevin Allred is a feminist author, educator, and undoer of the status quo. A shamless outlaw of academia, he believes everyone - not just gatekeepers of the Ivory Tower - should have access to knowledge and education. His unique blend of pop culture and politics is perfectly suited for college audiences and community spaces interested in feminist activism. As a facilitator, Kevin guides audiences through interactive analyses and discussions with brief portions of lecture folded in. His knowledge and passion combined create fun, dynamic, one-of-a-kind educational events you will remember for years to come.

A Rutgers University professor, he created "Politicizing Beyoncé" in 2010 -- a class that combines political analysis of race, gender, sexuality, and class with in-depth readings of Beyoncé's music to explore the field of intersectional feminism, and the ways the above mentioned categories impact young people in today's world. Ultimately, the course asks: Can Beyoncé's music be seen as a blueprint for progressive social change? The class has spawned lectures,  community classroom events across the United States, an upcoming book project, and even recognition from Beyoncé's own team!

Kevin continues to teach at Rutgers University and can regularly be seen offering political and pop culture commentary as a contributor to MSNBC's "So POPular with Janet Mock," as well as appearing on CNN and Huffington Post Live. He is also the host of the popular podcast "Bey-Ond Pop Culture," which seeks to politicize pop culture and discuss the messages that matter in the media. Whether discussing "Politicizing Beyoncé" or any number of pop culture hot topics, students, audience members, and media alike rave about Kevin's creativity, delivery, and educational innovation. Kevin will surely make your event unforgettable!

Politicizing Beyoncé: Feminism & Pop Culture

Politicizing Beyoncé uses one or more music videos - along with background historical and political information from a black feminist canon - to create conversations around the ways race, gender, sexuality, and class are lived and perceived in today's world. Audience members will be asked to think about the history of feminism alongside analysis of Beyoncé's music to discuss the state of the world and to position Beyoncé herself within a progressive feminist trajectory.
