Steve Bustin

BA (Hons), FPSA, PSAE

SXE, UK

As the MC/compere at your next conference or event, I'll bring energy, humour, charm - and a safe pair of hands - to your stage. I host conference main stages, trade shows, live demo areas, awards etc

Steve Bustin is the 'go to' event emcee/MC/compere/host/facilitator/presenter - pick your term, it's all (roughly) the same thing!

Steve hosts events from conferences, product launches and trade shows to award ceremonies, fundraisers and cabaret nights. Mixing a background as a BBC News journalist, bringing gravitas and professionalism, with time spent as a stand-up comic and improv performer, he is uniquely equipped to host events when you need that elusive mix of experience, charm and engagement. Often described by those who book him as a 'safe pair of hands', you can relax and concentrate on the myriad of other things event organisers need to juggle during a conference or event.

Steve has hosted events at venues including major conference halls and West End theatres right through to nightclubs, open-air buses and on one memorable occasion, in a paddling pool in the middle of a woodland. Ask him to tell you that story sometime...

As well as being in demand as an emcee, Steve is also regularly booked as a keynote and breakout speaker (sometimes combining the two roles), speaking on a range of communication topics and also on online security, based on his experience of finding himself to be the 'face' of an online dating fraud. A business communication expert, Steve will help your delegates make every communication - from a speech to a social media post - engaging and effective. Through targeted, engaging and practical keynotes and breakout sessions, Steve inspires your delegates to grasp the opportunities offered by engaging communication by giving them use-in-your-business-tomorrow communication tools and tips.

Steve was named 'National Speaker of the Year' in 2015 by The Professional Speaking Association UK & Ireland and awarded their highest award, The Professional Speaking Award of Excellence, in 2021 - one of only 20 people to hold this designation. He's the author of two books, The Authority Guide to Presenting and Public Speaking (print & audio book) and The Authority Guide to PR for Small Business.

Away from business, Steve also speaks to gardening groups on a range of horticultural and garden history topics. He lives in Brighton with his husband and dog.

OK, I hear what you're saying - but what do you actually DO?

Do you know how to introduce yourself and what you do without it just sounding like 'me, me, me'? Do people end a conversation with you none the wiser about what you could do for them - or their business? Too many of us describe what we do in terms of how we spend our day - instead of what we could do and what difference we could make to the person - a potential client - we're talking to.

Let's Get Engaged!

To many of us 'broadcast' to the world - just talk about ourselves and fail to enagge anyone in conversation - whether that's face to face, online or on social media. This keynore looks at how to make sure every communication is the start of a two way conversation with customers, prospects or staff. This keynote is the centre of a book I'm currently writing.

The Media and Me?

We'd all like to see our names in the papers - or on TV, radio or online - but how often do we see our competitors quoted or featured instead? The session looks at how to promote your business through the media - undertaking your own PR rather than wasting money on an agency or consultant. Packed with tips and tools you can use at your desk tomorrow to start building your profile and connecting with new audiences.

Are You Ready For Your Close-up?

Business leaders and owners are, by definition, experts in their field. Yet many go unrecognised as such and don't get called upon to demonstrate their expertise in the media, potentially reaching huge audiences.

This session looks at how anyone can promote themselves as a media expert or pundit, getting regular interviews on their area of expertise to promote themselves and their business.

Includes one or two audience members being given a media-style...

From Selfies to Sales

Everyone knows they need to be on social media - but very few people really make it pay. This sessions looks at turning social media from a chore or a time-sink to a strategic business tool that actually builds results for your business, reaching the people you need to reach with the messages you want them to hear - and hearing back from them as they engage.

Top tip for starters: Your social media activity isn't part of marketing - it's part of customer services.
