Her titles have included Elementary School Teacher, Lead Teacher Mentor, Math Specialist, Program Administrator, Principal, and Executive Director of Coaching and Diversity Leadership. She has also served as a member of the New York State Bias Committee, a statewide initiative to remove bias from teacher certification exams.
Over the past 25 years, Tyra has been a leader in designing and facilitating cutting-edge learning experiences for schools and district administrators, on topics such as reading leadership, diversity and cultural competencies, leadership, and professional learning communities. She is the recipient of numerous awards such as the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from the White House and National Science Foundation, the Region 11 Director of the Year from SAANYS (School Administrators Association of New York State), the Maxine Giacobbe Diversity Award from NYSAWA (New York State Association for Women Administrators), and the Women for Women Inspiring Women Award from WDKX Radio Station.
Tyra is an accomplished speaker and has presented at various state and national events, including the America's Choice Conference, Learning Forward (formerly National Staff Development), and Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Conferences. She was the co-keynote speaker for The State University of New York at Geneseo's Urban Teaching Educators 13th Annual Xerox Conference, keynote speaker for the Genesee Valley School Board Instructional Staff Development for Educational Office Personnel, and both speaker and panelist for the Canandaigua Veterans Association Diversity Day Conference. Tyra has also spoken at the University of Rochester Warner School of Education, Nazareth College, St. John Fisher College, and The State University of New York at Geneseo. She has served as coach on two separate occasions for principals from around the world at the National Principals Leadership Institute (NPLI) in New York City.
