David Lang
Ed.S.
VA, USI am a John Maxwell Team certified leadership teacher, speaker, and coach.
I spent 35 years practicing leadership and coaching in the military, the commercial sector, and the U.S. Civil Service before deciding to become a leadership coach and speaker. I love speaking as it gives me a chance to recall 35 years of both getting it right and getting it wrong, thereby demonstrating that failure is just a step along the path of success. I originally perceived all of my greatest leadership lessons as failures until I was able to see that I was hitting my target -- the issue was it wasn't always the right target! The realization that I was actually getting exactly what I was focusing on made me realize that we can all be successful leaders if we learn to properly direct our focus and control the awesome power of creation and manifestation we all possess.
I am an absolute believer in the law of attraction and the power each of us has to create our own reality. I also believe that where attention goes, energy flows. Put another way, if you don't like what you see in front of you, don't look at it! Where we focus is where we go; good or bad.
My leadership experience includes over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and over 12 years in industry where I was a director at Dell, McDonald Bradley, Abraxas, General Dynamics, and Veridian. Some of my more challenging leadership positions included Operation Desert Storm and my time as the senior USAF Special Agent in Zagreb, Croatia where I was in charge of the Joint Force Protection Team for the United Nations Implementation Forces (IFOR). In 2003, while employed by industry, I got a whole new view of leadership when the U.S. State Department asked me to serve as a United Nations Weapons of Mass Destruction inspector in Iraq!
