Dr. Melvin Mahone was born and raised in Chicago, IL and attended public schools there before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1969. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged after combat. Upon his return to America he graduated with a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Sociology and Corrections from Chicago State University in Chicago, IL. He then graduated with a PhD. in Criminal Justice and corrections from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, OH.

Over the course of several decades he worked in every area of the Criminal Justice system, and has taught over 35 different Criminal Justice courses at several colleges and universities. He has been a Dean and coordinator of Criminal Justice at Taylor Business Institute in Chicago, IL and Olympic College in Bremerton, WA. He currently conducts workshops and consults on Stress and Leadership in the workplace. He is also a published writer. He has authored 2 books:" Coping with Stress and Building Leadership: One Man's Journey." And" Prison Privatization in America: Costs and Benefits." He is the father of 3 children and currently resides in Grovetown, GA where he is an Assistant Sociology professor at Payne College in Augusta GA.

Leadership

I wrote two books. The first book was Coping With Stress and Building leadership: One Man's Journey. In this book I talked about how coping with stress made me a leader as an ex-Marine Vietnam combat veteran and up until now as a leader by highlighting the positions I have had until the present. I have been teaching and leading college students since 1997. I taught GED students from 1979 until 1987. I was a manager and leader to over hundreds and hundreds of students.
