In a sharp illustration of how the media landscape is shifting from traditional companies to new media powerhouses, Kirstine Stewart's role as head of Twitter Canada enables her to foucs on partnerships with media companies, brands and advertisers.

In her previous role with CBC as Executive Vice-President of English Services, Stewart oversaw its national operations, approximately 5,000 employees and a $785 million budget covering multiple media platforms across the country.

When she started at CBC in 2006 as General Manager, Television, Stewart re-established the company as a leader in Canadian-made television programming and broadcasting by commissioning the greatest number of Canadian content hours the CBC has ever had in prime time, including many breakout Canadian hits. Stewart was integral to CBC's move from last place to first in just two years, in Canadian programming watched by audience. She has also developed broadband and mobile content strategies and increased CBC's presence in regional markets across the country.

Stewart's deep and broad industry experience spans the country and the continent. Prior to joining CBC she was Senior Vice-President, Programming, Alliance Atlantis. There she was responsible for the programming and management of eight channels, including BBC Canada, National Geographic Canada, and Home and Garden Television.

As Senior Vice-President, Programming, Hallmark Entertainment, Stewart oversaw the programming of 17 international broadcast channels watched by more than 50 million people worldwide, managed a programming budget of US$300 million and a staff of 750 in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Hong Kong, London and Australia.

She has also been General Manager and Vice-President, Programming Trio/Newsworld International where she was responsible for the programming of Trio, and of Newsworld International, distributed to 30 million homes in the U.S. Her career in the industry began as President, Distribution, for Paragon International.

Stewart is a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders, selected to advise the World Economic Forum. She was named Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) 2010 Woman of the Year, has been recognized by the Women's Executive Network as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women, and in 2006 was named one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40. Marketing Magazine has also recognized Kirstine's role in naming CBC Media Player of the Year, 2009.

She is a founding board member of Culture Days, sits on the Banff Television and Film Festival board and on the boards of White Knights and Amfar. Kirstine is a graduate of the University of Toronto, and the Global Leadership in the 21st Century program at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
